Pot and plant size guide

When you are shopping on line it can be hard to know what size the plants are and what you are getting. This size guide is to help you know what you are getting.

Starter/Plug Plants
Starter plants (often known as plug plants) are cost effective way of buying plants. All of our plants are grwon in a 4.5cm by 5cm plug. This is bigger than most nurseries but we prefer to have a more established plant. The plants are well rooted and ready to be planted up either into a pot or (if the time of year is right) straight into the garden.
6cm Potted Plants
This is the perfect size for chilli and pepper plants in the early part of the year. In the early months of their life chillies can be a bit delicate. That is why we prefer to send them to you in a small pot. It reduces stress on the plant and helps keep the roots both protected and a little warmer.
9cm Potted Plants
9cm pots are the one of the most cost effective ways of buying plants. All of our 9cm plants have been growing for a long enough period of time to make sure you get a well rooted established plant. This size is perfect for planting out (when the weather permist) and means you get a established garden quicker.
1 litre Jumbo Potted Plants
These are big pots. Around 13cm in diameter and around the same depth. This takes a lot of the growing time away from you giving you are far bigger plant. This pot size is often ready from mid to late April onwards.

Plant Description

Naranga starter chilli plant

Capsicum baccatum 'Naranga' This lovely Peruvian Chilli isn’t just tasty, it also produces lovely teardrop shaped fruit. Eventually ripening to red, the fruit start of lime green and darken to red. As with all Chillies they can be enjoyed at the immature stage and are particularly nice at the dark green stage. Often stuffed and filled with cheese, the heat of this Chilli is medium to hot making it a good all round fruit. The plant itself grows very well in pots and is relatively compact. Because of the teardrop shape to the fruit it can be grown as an ornamental especially when it has lovely bright red fruit hanging all around the plant. As it is a “baccatum” variety it’s slightly easier to overwinter than many of the other Chillies so maybe a good choice if you wanted to have a go at growing you Chilli from year to year. To sum up Pretty, tasty and easier to overwinter. Makes a good purchase and gift.
