Pot and plant size guide

When you are shopping on line it can be hard to know what size the plants are and what you are getting. This size guide is to help you know what you are getting.

Starter/Plug Plants
Starter plants (often known as plug plants) are cost effective way of buying plants. All of our plants are grwon in a 4.5cm by 5cm plug. This is bigger than most nurseries but we prefer to have a more established plant. The plants are well rooted and ready to be planted up either into a pot or (if the time of year is right) straight into the garden.
6cm Potted Plants
This is the perfect size for chilli and pepper plants in the early part of the year. In the early months of their life chillies can be a bit delicate. That is why we prefer to send them to you in a small pot. It reduces stress on the plant and helps keep the roots both protected and a little warmer.
9cm Potted Plants
9cm pots are the one of the most cost effective ways of buying plants. All of our 9cm plants have been growing for a long enough period of time to make sure you get a well rooted established plant. This size is perfect for planting out (when the weather permits) and means you get a established garden quicker.
1 litre Jumbo Potted Plants
These are big pots. Around 13cm in diameter and around the same depth. This takes a lot of the growing time away from you giving you are far bigger plant. This pot size is often ready from mid to late April onwards.

Plant Description

Origanum vulgare 'Country Cream' The real attraction of this plant is the white and green variegated leaves which look lovely trailing over the edges of a pot or corner of a rockery. It’ll reach around 10cm in height and spread not much more than 20-25cm. This variety can be used in the same way you would use standard Oregano. Whether that’s adding it to salads, chilli, Moroccan dishes or onto a pizza. The flavour isn't quite as strong as the standard Oregano but there’s nothing to stop you adding a bit more for a stronger flavour. A perennial herb that looks as good as it tastes. Oregano is one of those must have herbs, but sometimes it’s nice to have something a bit different. This low growing plant is as at home in an alpine rockery as it is in the herb garden. It’ll reach around 10cm in height and spread not much more than 20-25cm. The real attraction of this plant is the white and green variegated leaves which look lovely trailing over the edges of a pot or corner of a rockery. What position should I grow it in? It’s almost a standing joke on the nursery when writing about herbs, but Oregano is pretty much the same as every other herb “well drained soil in a sunny position”. The one problem that people seem to have with Oregano Country Cream is the well drained soil. During the summer months this plant can cope with sitting a bit wet especially when the sun is beating down on it. But it’s the wetter winter months which you really have to worry about having well drained soil. Oregano Country Cream will be happy in the cold of the UK but that’s only if it’s not sitting in wet soil. This makes it a very good plant for the a pot or container. But can I use it? Yes, this variety can be used in the same way you would use standard Oregano. Whether that’s adding it to salads, chilli, Moroccan dishes or onto a pizza. The flavour isn't quite as strong as the standard Oregano but there’s nothing to stop you adding a bit more for a stronger flavour. To sum up It looks good and it tastes good. You may want to consider Oregano Country Cream for a patio pot but don't forget it’s great for culinary use too.
