Pot and plant size guide

When you are shopping on line it can be hard to know what size the plants are and what you are getting. This size guide is to help you know what you are getting.

Starter/Plug Plants
Starter plants (often known as plug plants) are cost effective way of buying plants. All of our plants are grwon in a 4.5cm by 5cm plug. This is bigger than most nurseries but we prefer to have a more established plant. The plants are well rooted and ready to be planted up either into a pot or (if the time of year is right) straight into the garden.
6cm Potted Plants
This is the perfect size for chilli and pepper plants in the early part of the year. In the early months of their life chillies can be a bit delicate. That is why we prefer to send them to you in a small pot. It reduces stress on the plant and helps keep the roots both protected and a little warmer.
9cm Potted Plants
9cm pots are the one of the most cost effective ways of buying plants. All of our 9cm plants have been growing for a long enough period of time to make sure you get a well rooted established plant. This size is perfect for planting out (when the weather permist) and means you get a established garden quicker.
1 litre Jumbo Potted Plants
These are big pots. Around 13cm in diameter and around the same depth. This takes a lot of the growing time away from you giving you are far bigger plant. This pot size is often ready from mid to late April onwards.

Plant Description

Sante Fe Grande starter chilli plant. Early cropper with beautiful cream fruit.

It’s the sheer speed of this Chilli that attracts many people. Without fail over the last 3 years this Chilli has been the first variety to flower and fruit. It produces lovely, reasonably large fleshy Chillies that are picked white! They will ripen to red over a long period of time on the plant, but picking them when white is the thing to do. The fruit has a nice thick flesh very similar to a Jalapeno and similar in shape too. They are great added to any dish but I particularly like them on a hot salad or pizza which is similar to how I would enjoy a Jalapeno. The plant is by no means the most attractive. It tends to be all growth on the top and not a lot at the base. But don’t let that put you off if you are growing Chillies for the fruit this won’t worry you at all. This is a very productive Chilli and you could end up picking up to 100 fruit from this plant throughout a growing season. To sum up Sante Fe Grande is not a Chilli for anyone looking for a lovely looking plant on the patio. But if you want a good sized fruit with a nice thick flesh it’s well worth considering.
